In elementary school when our teachers asked us to sit down and write short 4-sentence “essays” about our future careers, I never had a constant response.  One day it was lawyer, then real estate agent, then marine biologist, and then constantly revisiting the idea of being a “businesswoman/entrepreneur”.. whatever that meant at that time (which was absolutely nothing). I really had no idea at all what any of these jobs entailed -  lawyers wore suits and stood around in these big mahogany wall courtrooms.. real estate agents were your local small town celebrities, with their faces on notepads and refrigerator magnets everywhere.  Meanwhile, the idea of being a marine biologist was completely unfounded besides for the fact that it sounded different from the usual doctor, teacher, fireman that everyone else wanted to do…and therefore in my eyes was a cool occupation (I couldn’t even really swim that well)..and of course, any good Xia daughter would carry out the family legacy in true Ningbonese entrepreneurial fashion.

This was all obviously bullshit.  I either thought I was good at everything, or had no idea what I could do well and therefore assumed that anything was possible.  Yeah..things have changed.

This job search is clearly getting to me a little.
